Cage's Joe Exotic Series Picked Up by Amazon

Strangely, one of the projects a lot of people are excited for is an untitled scripted series currently in development that features that focuses on Joe Exotic, the infamous star of Netflix’s popular docuseries Tiger King. Not necessarily because of the series itself (We've heard the story to death at this point), but because of who will play Joe Exotic. Mr. Nicolas Cage.

Now, it's been confirmed the series has been picked up by Amazon Prime Video after previously being set-up over at CBS TV Studios. American Vandel showrunner Dan Lagana will take up the same position for this series which he co-created with producer Brian Grazer and Paul Young. Amazon Studios, Imagine Television Studio,s and CBS Television Studios are all producing.

This is only one of several scripted shows being made around the Tiger King phenomenon with a separate limited series titled Joe Exotic (Which will star Kate McKinnon as Carole Baskin) having already received a joint straight-to-series order by NBC, Peacock and USA. However, Cage's iteration of the now highly publicized real story will be based on a Texas Monthly article, focusing on Joe Exotic, born as Joe Shreibvogel. The series will explore how he became Joe Exotic, the eccentric, exotic zookeeper in Oklahoma who fights to keep his park along with how he lost himself to a character of his own creation. Stay tuned!
