Following the interesting casting of pop star Rina Sawayama last week, John Wick: Chapter 4 has just announced a more appropriate addition to the upcoming fourth installment. Late yesterday, it was confirmed that martial artist Donnie Yen has joined the cast.
Known here in the states for his supporting work in films such as Rogue One and xXx: The Return of Xander Cage along with his internationally successful IP Man film series, Yen will join John Wick 4 as an old friend of the titular character. While little else was revealed, it was indicated that Yen's character has the same history and many of the same enemies as Wick. Filming is set to begin this Summer on location in France, Germany, and Japan.
John Wick: Chapter 4 will be the first film not to be written by Derek Kolstad with Shay Hatten and Michael Finch take over scripting duties. However, the franchise's mainstay director Chad Stahelski is returning as director. The film is currently set for a release date of May 27th, 2022. Stay tuned!
