Riz Ahmed has been pretty much everywhere the last few years. While general audiences would recognize him from the big budget films Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Venom, he also starred in the acclaimed film Nightcrawler and the series The Night Of. However, he's never been the lead of the story, but that's about to change with what looks to be an engrossing character in the Amazon film Sound of Metal. The synopsis is as follows:
Ruben (Played by Ahmed) is a drummer and one half of the duo Blackgammon along with his singer girlfriend Lou (Played by Olivia Cooke). A former drug addict, he is sober for four years. Suddenly, he begins to lose his hearing. His sponsor makes him go meet Joe (Played by Paul Raci), who leads a deaf community. With the help from them, Ruben struggles to accept his situation.
Today, the exclusive trailer for the feature has been released and, like a lot of films during the COVID-19 pandemic, will have a release in theaters November 20th before arriving on Prime Video almost immediately after on December 4th. Check out the trailer below:
Sound of Metal co-stars Lauren Ridloff and Mathieu Amalric. It is directed by Darius Marder (Who co-wrote the script with Abraham Marder).
I saw Whiplash. That was enough drumming movies for me.
