Linklater & Fennell Set New Films, Announce Principal Leads

Two Oscar-nominated directors, Richard Linklater and Emerald Fennell, have just announced their new projects today along with their respective principal cast members. Check out the details for both below:

Richard Linklater (Hitman)

Following up his acclaimed animated film Apollo 10½: A Space Age Childhood, director Richard Linklater returns to live-action with his new film Hitman. The film will tell the true story of Gary Johnson who, while serving as an investigator for the Harris County district attorney's office, was asked to go undercover by the police, posing as a hitman. A job Johnson committed to as he became one of the most sought-after professional killers, being hired for more than 60 jobs, only to inform on each client to the police.

The script will get some inspiration from a 2001 Texas Monthly article that was written by journalist Skip Hollandsworth and chronicled Johnson's wild journey. Linklater is actually co-writing the screenplay with his announced lead star for the film, Glen Powell. Powell will be seen at the end of this month co-starring as Hangman in Top Gun: Maverick. Adria Arjona will co-star after previously being seen earlier this year in the Sony/Marvel production Morbius.

Emerald Fennell (Saltburn)

Following up her Oscar-winning screenplay for 2020's Promising Young Woman (which also served as her directorial debut), Fennell has set her next project along with the principal players for the film. Reportedly titled Saltburn, the film will focus on a grand, aristocratic English family. The title derives from the English town Saltburn-by-the-Sea where Fennell attended the prestigious boarding school Marlborough College .

In addition, Rosamund Pike (Gone Girl) has been announced as the lead role along with co-stars Jacob Elordi (Euphoria) and Barry Keoghan (The Killing of a Sacred Deer, Eternals).

Stay tuned!
