Live-Action "Lion King" Prequel Announced, Jenkins to Direct

Jon Favreau's 2019 live-action remake of The Lion King managed to pull in over $1 billion at the box office. So it's no surprise that Disney has announced today that a prequel to the film, titled The Lion King 2 for now, is in development at Disney, this time with acclaimed director Barry Jenkins (Moonlight) attached to helm.
No production start has been given (Or a release date). While Favreau won't return as director, the first film's writer, Jeff Nathanson, is returning to pen the prequel which reportedly will depict Mufasa's origin story. Stay tuned!
