At the beginning of this month, we got the first look photos for Netflix's upcoming film Ma Rainey's Black Bottom (See them here), on the award-winning August Wilson-written play of the same name, but adapted to the screen adapted by Ruben Santiago-Hudson. Set over the course of an afternoon recording session in 1920's Chicago, the story follows legendary "Mother of the Blues" Ma Rainey (Played by Viola Davis) as she engages in a battle of wills with her white manager and producer over control of her music. As that battle occurs, the band members wait in the studio, all the while revealing truths and stories that will lead to a life-changing collaboration.

In addition, the film will see the final performance of Chadwick Boseman who passed in August after a years-long battle with colon cancer. However, he is immortalized here, one last time, in the role of Levee, a young, ambitious trumpeter who aspired to make his own mark in the music industry and is the boyfriend of Ma Rainey in the film. Circulating over the last couple days, several new character posters have been released. Check them out below:

And now, the official trailer for the film has been released, promising an ambitious musical character study. Check it out below:

Ma Rainey's Black Bottom co-stars Colman Domingo, Glynn Turman, Michael Potts, Taylour Paige, and Dusan Brown. It is directed by George C. Wolfe. On a final note, check out the promotional poster for the film that puts Boseman centerstage alongside Davis:
