The 2000 supernatural thriller The Gift was co-written by Billy Bob Thornton before he wrote his 1996 Oscar-winning screenplay for Sling Blade. While Tom Epperson co-wrote The Gift, the story itself (a psychic who finds herself caught in the middle of a murder investigation), was actually based on Thornton's own mother's reputed psychic abilities.
