Movie Fact #44 - September 30th, 2020

Some have speculated the 1977 film Annie Hall was autobigraphical for director/writer/star Woody Allen. This is not more prevalent than in the casting of Diane Keaton who Allen was not only romantically linked to, but potentially her character down to the name. In actuality, Diane Keaton's real surname is "Hall" and "Annie" was her nickname. And while Allen denies this, Keaton has also stated that the relationship between Allen's character Alvy and Keaton's character Annie was partly based on her relationship with the director. But hey, Allen won Best Director and Best Original Screenplay, Keaton won Best Actress, and the film won Best Picture. Whatever the inspiration, it's now a revered story. Stay tuned!
