One of the few franchises to really succeed in current times (Beyond the Marvel Cinematic Universe) is Warner Bros.'s Conjuring Universe. So successful that between the main film's second and upcoming third installment, there have been three spin-off films. Annabelle: Creation (2017) , The Nun (2018), Annabelle Comes Home (2019), and The Curse of La Llorona (2019). But, after 5 years, Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga are back as real-life paranormal investigators and authors Ed and Lorraine Warren (After having supporting roles in Annabelle Comes Home. Unlike the first two sequels, the third film The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It will be directed by Michael Chaves instead of James Wan. Chaves previously directed The Curse of La Llorona which also was his directorial debut. Wan was so impressed with Chaves while working with him on that film (Wan serves as a producer for the overall franchise), he picked Chaves to helm the third main installment as Wan was too busy with other projects. Wan had this to say:
"While working closely with Chaves on The Curse of La Llorona, I got to know him as a filmmaker. Chaves' ability to bring emotion to a story, and his understanding of mood and scares, make him a perfect fit to direct the next Conjuring film."
The third film will be far more unique, not being a haunted house film like the first two, focusing on one of the most sensational cases from the Warren files, based on the trial of Arne Cheyenne Johnson, a murder trial that took place in 1981 in Connecticut. In addition, the events mark the first time in U.S. history that a murder suspect would claim demonic possession as a defense. And with that, the official trailer for the film has been released to show that the Warrens will face the most terrifying (and most public) case of their careers. Check out the trailer below:
The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It co-stars Ruairi O'Connor, Sarah Catherine Hook, and Julian Hilliard. It is set to be simultaneously released on HBO Max and in theaters on June 4th.
A fitting title to a greedy sequel
