"The Girlfriend Experience" Debuts Official Season 3 Trailer

One of Steven Soderbergh's more taboo projects among his many experimental concepts was the 2009 film The Girlfriend Experience, starring noted pornstar actress Sasha Grey as a high price call girl who provides both emotional and sexual relationships. And while the film was mixed received, Soderbergh decided to use this concept and make an anthology series on Starz where each season would deal with various aspects of the industry to comment on larger world issues through the perspective of one female character who provides such services.

The third season, delayed in by the COVID-19 pandemic along with the series' concept allow for more development time between each season, looks to comment on the digital era including big tech, algorithms, online dating, and the analytical world of neuroscience. The female perspective for this new season is Iris, played by Julia Goldani Telles, and is set amidst the London tech scene. Iris, an neuroscience major, begins to explore the transactional world of The Girlfriend Experience, ultimately finding her client sessions as advantageous in providing her with a compelling edge in the tech world. This will lead her to go down a deep path of exploration, questioning her very existence. This leads her to ask the terrifying question: Are her actions driven by free will, or something else altogether?

Today, the official trailer for the new season has been released which you can check out

Season 3 of The Girlfriend Experience is set to premiere on Starz on May 2nd.

Replying to

I think it's exactly the opposite. It is more of a moral statement in the way of Bret Easton Ellis or Pasolini.
