"The Matrix Resurrections" Featurette Discusses Franchise's Legacy

It's pretty mind-blowing in it's own right that the first Matrix film came out over 20 years ago. It's even harder to believe that in 2021, 18 years after the original trilogy ended in 2003, that a fourth film is coming. Whether that's a sign of people being in a simulation or not (Deja vu, anyone?), it's hard to deny the legacy of the franchise. It completely changed the landscape of modern blockbuster cinema and the technology it helped pioneer changed the game in terms of visual media.

Whatever The Matrix Resurrections ultimately adds to the franchise or pop culture as a whole when it lands in theaters on December 22nd (it will also be available on HBO Max that same day), is anyone's guess. But as Neo returns alongside old and new characters, Warner Bros. has released a 4-minute featurette titled "The Matrix Legacy" in which the cast and crew discuss the importance of the franchise as a whole. Check it out below:

The Matrix Resurrections stars Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, Jada Pinkett Smith, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Jessica Henwick, Jonathan Groff, Neil Patrick Harris, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, and Christina Ricci. It is directed by Lana Wachowski (who co-wrote the script with David Mitchell and Aleksandar Hemon).

The Tranchowski's were one hit wonders. Everything they made after the Matrix has been complete garbage.

Pretty much. They made 'bound' which was solid but that was before matrix 1.
