"The Northman" Streams Soundtrack, Raids $1.3 Million in Thurs. Previews

Currently getting critical acclaim (89% on RT, 83% on Metacritic), The Northman is looking to be the dominating force this weekend at the box office. In it's Thursday previews, the blood-drenched Viking epic, the third directorial effort Robert Eggers (The Witch, The Lighthouse), took the top spot with $1.35 million from 2,700 theaters. This beat fellow new releases including the animated heist film The Bad Guys ($1.15 million from 3,000 theaters) and The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent ($835,000 from 3,036 theaters). To help audiences feel the berserker rage of the lead character, The Northman is now streaming its soundtrack on Spotify. Co-composed by Robin Carolan and Sebastian Gainsborough, the score is as intense as you think it as and sets the mood for anyone intrigued enough to see the film. Check it out:

Focusing on a young Viking prince on his quest to avenge his father's murder, The Northman is being produced by Universal’s indie label Focus Features and is projected to earn $10 million to $15 million in its first three days of release. The film reportedly cost $90 million to produce, though with tax credits the budget is closer to $70 million. But with a strong response, the arthouse film could easily be one that sees audiences all over toasting some mead to the glory of Odin! Stay tuned!
