Yeoh Reveals Chan Saved Her Life

During an 18-minute interview with GQ that sees her breaking down her most iconic roles, actress Michelle Yeoh took a moment to reveal that during a stunt she performed on the 1992 film Police Story 3 (referred to as Supercop in most markets), star Jackie Chan actually saved her life during the filming of a dangerous stunt.

The third film saw Chan's popular character RHKP Inspector "Kevin" Chan Ka-Kui being sent to Guangzhou. Here he meets Yeoh's character, Chinese police force's Interpol director, Inspector Jessica Yang who he teams up with to stop a drug lord based in Hong Kong. The scene in question sees Yeoh's character hanging onto the top of a van as it races through traffic-filled streets. The stunt required her to fall off the back of the van and land on the hood of Ka-Kui's car. However, as her full quote on the incident indicates, that isn't what happened:

Everything went wrong. The windscreen did not shatter. The things that were supposed to make it [break] didn't. So Jackie couldn't get a handle on me. When you look, watch the outtakes, he scrambled over the windscreen and tried to hold onto me. Luckily, he grabbed onto a bit of my shirt as I was sliding off the car. He saved me, I think, my life. Ssh! But don't tell him that. And as I rolled off, if he didn't give me that little extra jerk, I would've landed on my head first and that would have been the disaster of my life.

You can view the full interview below with footage of the incident featured at the 8:00 minute mark:

Currently, Yeoh is enjoying critical praise for her newest film Everything Everywhere All at Once which sees her playing the type of role she says she's been waiting to do for a long time. With her at her highest moment of praise, it seems right she would take this time to be grateful for her career and reflect that she almost wasn't here to enjoy it! Stay tuned!
